I have the 4100. I didn't use the tool to measure mine, but trial and error. No tension on the cable ruins the transmission. Too much makes the throttle too touchy and the car downshift too easily. So I put too much tension on the cable then backed it off until I was happy.

But this is not the right way but better than leaving the cable slack.

That's actually not a bad method. The best is to measure pressure, but that is a bit of a pain and you need the right tool.

I set mine from a youtube video, put out by a transmission tech, worked great first time. You say you have a 2.8 gear in your differential? Wow..how fast does she go?

I need to adjust mine on the Bronco. It will hardly downshift.

FYI, I adjusted the TV cable on my 88 Bronco AOD last night. Since the tranny was installed, it would not downshift unless I REALLY mash the pedal. I moved it about two teeth or a 1/16" so that I had to just stretch the cable just a little to hook it up. I then went for a test drive and it shifted MUCH better. Do not be scare of tweaking this cable, but it sounds like it is better to be slightly too tight (quicker downshift) that slightly too loose and have it trash the tranny.
