More Power/options
I'm looking for options.
I have a '69 302 with good headers, carb, intake and want more reliable power.
i have been reading alot about the 408 stroked 351w.
What do you guys think is the best option for the money? What trans.
Wont be a drag car, but want it fast and fun.
Can you list the details of what i can expect? Crate or build, trans combos. i want to stay away from turbo, fuel injxn, spray or any artificial stuff. want the car to look like what i have and dont want a big block. Where should i look for crate motors?
thanks for your help.

You can do a lot with that 302, but if you insist on a crate, then here ya go.

It all boils down to how much do you want to spend? For between $5K and $7K, you can get a 373HP 302ci, depending on your option. This includes a AOD 4speed auto transmission. 302's weigh less and personaly, I like the 302 block as it is damn near bullit proof.

What kind of power numbers are you looking for? Are you the type of person who would do the work themselves, or are you paying to get everything done? Are you looking at building up to it, or are you doing it all at once? Either way you go, if you get aluminum heads and a hotter cam, they should interchange with the 351 block. Also, what CFM carb are you running? Have you had your ignition timing curve tuned? Running electronic ignition?
For less than $2,000 you can have the heads, cam, and carb, and probably clearing 300hp easily.

You could put different heads, intake and carb on that 302 and make it rock with out all of the head aches of trying to stuff a larger engine in there.

I think building a stroker motor is a great way to build a large powerplant. By building it, you decide on how radical and how much power you will have. I am in the planning and beginning stages of a 347. If you dont want to spend that much money on a stroker, you can just get high performance parts. I heard great things about the AFR185 heads a plan on using them myself.
