which rear axle mount plate to get?
Hi all,
since I upgraded to 9" I have a messy mount plate setup.
I had no new plates so I had to use the old ones from my 6 cylinder axle setup.
the new axle is 3" diameter and so is the inner distance of the u-bolts. There was no way to modify the old ones as they were, BUT when I swapped left and right mounting plates I was able to elongate the holes. The distance between 2 u-bolts was the same as the leaf spring and perch are same width.
As i couldn't elongate the hole with a drill I welded another plate into the mounting to cover the original holes and drilled new ones (see picture).
That works fine, but as I swapped the plates left to right and turned them by 90 degrees the angle for the shocks is off. So for this I wanted new ones that fit.
I ordered two different ones already but none will fit without modification.
Anyone any idea who would sell a plate for my application?
1964 model, with 9" rear ? should be the same for 64-66 ...
or who would know which plates would need the least modification ....
Thanks a million!
the picture shows one of the plates with a thick (quarter inch) plate welded into it to allow for drilling from that side. you can see as well how it will throw off the angle of the shock when the plate is turned by 90 degrees to fit on other side.

i got one of those from NPD but I believe the bolt holes where not 3" distance. something was wrong with them.
I'll pull them out of my trunk the next time I'm at car and see what actually needs to be modified. Sorry. should have checked on that earlier ... or at least remembered what I didn't like about them ;-)
