yeah i went ahead and got the stock fly wheel on order. i went with a stock one because the aluminum were pretty frail, i need something to hold up. i went ahead and ordered a zoom clutch, and the detroit locker mentioned above. the heads are gonna have to wait, i might have some 351 heads with the nice big valves (not sure the size yet).

flywheel _should_ be 157 tooth. but don't take my word for it. can you still count the teeth on the old one?

ah I see you ordered already. yah stay away from aluminum flywheels in street driven cars. manufacturesrs say they are rather for racing applications. put it this way: the weight of a steel one (25lbs) will keep the engine spinning once going. If you have a very light flywheel you'll probably bite into the steering wheel when you let off the throttle at high rpms

I said TrueTrac, not locker. A locker is a completely different unit, better for strip use than anything else. A TrueTrac is a much more versatile diff and is better for street use.

351W heads are far from your best option. Unless you can find some small-chamber 351W heads (which are rare), you're going to be severely decreasing compression ratio. Those TFS heads will flow better, run cooler, and keep your compression up. If you don't want to buy new, keep an eye on various classified forums for a used set.

i can only agree on the TFS. the best two options for a 289 with stock pistons are those:
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
although they have much bigger chambers than stock, so you'd loose as well compression ratio. they're the only heads that have bigger valves than 1.9 that you can fit on stock 289.
1200$

or either of those (difference is just heat crossover):
http://store.summitracing.com/egnsea...115+4294784496
which are heavier on the budget but higher compression as they have 58cc chambers as opposed to trick flows 61cc.

the 351W option is something a lot of people do, but as Tad already said. you probably have to mill the crap out of them as they have huge chambers. not the best of all options.

I spent a lot of time hunting the best set of heads for my 289, and that were the two ones I came up with.

If you use them you will need hardened (and measured) pushrods. a set of roller rockers will help greatly as well. check the summit website for the parts. Under that you have installation guides for the heads. This way you'll know what kind of work is involved.

ok. i was told that 351 heads were the way to go, but looking around on here those seem to be the best money can buy. i will get them next order. and yes i got the true track. i say lockers cause that is what i always have referred to them as. the instruction say something about drilling into my block to get the cooling to work so i don't burn up the heads, is that a big deal? or am i just worrying too much?

that part of the documentation worried me as well. But the good news is the Felpro gaskets they list have those holes so you have a perfect template. So it shouldn't be a biggie. Maybe open a new thrad with that question, I'm positive a lot of people here on the forum did that already and can share

the cam links to the head. but it seems you're going for the full lalu package :-]
if you post rear end ratio and gearbox, someone here on the forums might be able to suggest a great cam.
They have more talent on that than I do ;-)
