i hope someone else chimes in, because I don't want you to depend on my opinmion.
i only know what I read here which might be wrong. I'm not an engine builder.

I believe the cam is to steep. rather 262 grind COMP Cams K31-238-3.
you shouldn't rev a stock 289 (because of rod bolt failure) more than 5500, so from this you want to have max power there. with a huge cam you;'ll end up having to stay between 3000 and 5500 to get any move on the car (lower no power and higher all breaks)

but in any case whatever you do. talk as well to the seller. Ask AFR for recommendations as well as comp cams.
The reason we ask for rear end is that with a 2.8:1 gearing you want a completely different cam than with a 4:11 gearing. same for transmission. auto or manual?

i have a 4 speed top loader. i don't know the numbers on it but it is strong as hell. the rearend looks stock, the guy i bought it from had no idea what he had bought, so i am picking up the pieces. as far as the cam i liked it, but i don't really know what it would do to my hp. your input is great. any ideas are great, i am building it off your advice. i put flowmaster super 44 on today while i wait for my flywheel and clutch. cant wait to hear it!
