LCA Removal Help
I still hate pickle forks. The 'proper' way to do it is with a puller, and the next best way is the double-BFH method. That way you don't damage anything if you need to put it back together. It usually only takes a couple whacks anyway.
As far as the cross brace goes, I've never had problems with my car shifting while the cross brace was out. Obviously you shouldn't drive it like that, but go ahead and take it out, then pop it back in if you're afraid you won't be able to get it back in later.

Thanks for the advice on the cross brace, I just wanted to make sure.
Where did you get a 5lb? All I could find is 4lb. It seemed to jump from 4lb to the big 8lb, full sledge hammers. Not that I'm complaining, it worked.
An individual ball joint separator will run $40-100, depending on how nice it is and where you get it from. Ideally you get a full suspension puller/separator shop set, but that'll set you back several hundred, if not over $1k.
