is 500 too much for an 8in 3rd member that has been rebuilt with 3.55 gears and a true trac? i have a 9in out of a truck that i was going to use at a later date but it has 2.78 gears and an open diff. the axles are also missing.

for simplicity reasons, i am thinking about sticking with the 8in. any thoughts?

Yikes. I wouldn't pay $500 for a complete 8" with brand new brakes.

Just for comparison, I paid around $1400 for a brand new 9" nodular plus casing tru-trac with 3.70 gears from currie. Most people prefer the 9" for higher durability reasons, etc. Depends what setup you plan on running, but I prefer the 9" over the 8" any day.

Really.. For a rebuilt 8" center with new gears and a True-Trac 500.00 bucks isn't bad. The True-Trac is worth that alone so yeah, a decent deal. Now the real question is whats your engine and its power? Anything 300+ and its a gamble IMO.

The Currie CUR-9TT350F ($1,380.95) is rated for about 375HP and the CUR-9TT350S ($1,389.95)is rated for 650HP. These both have the True-Trac center for 31 spline axles, 3.50:1 gears and the stronger 1330 yoke.

I just ordered the CUR-9TT325S 2 days ago and those are the HP ratings I got direct from Currie. Just got my Currie 9+ housing and rear disks today!

i am running a 351c 4v with an AOD with a stock converter. it may be pushing 300-350 at the wheels. i am not going to be racing the car but do want quicker acceleration than with the 2.78s that are in it now. i am leaning towards getting it. i have price the gears and locker for the 8 and it will cost around 700 just for the parts. this will also leave me an extra if needed. i just dont know that i will need the extra strength of the 9.

that's a very acceptable price for a complete 3rd member with trac-loc. Of course you do have your hold-outs for 9 inchers. For your needs, it's more than enough.

I paid about $1000 for a Strange 9" center section and I reused my old gears. $1300-1500 is about normal for a nice 9" center section. A stocker may be less.

The True Trac is about $400 or so new. I would wonder how new and how rebuilt is it.
