how can i tell the difference?

is this a 428?

I am not sure that is an FE. It looks too small. The big block Mustang's I have seen are fenderwell to fenderwell with very little room for anything else.

its an FE, you can see the exhaust ear on the right. there is no way to tell a 360 from a 390 from a 427 from a 428 by looking at them externally that i know of. casting numbers may tell you something though.
