Default aod shifter

so ive got an aod installed in my 72 but its not fully hooked up yet. i was lookin around on the net on how to hook up the linkage and i read something about having to flip the shifter arm from the inside if you are converting in from a column shifter to a floor shifter. is there any easier way to do this? has anyone with an aod that has had to do this?

On mine I had to flip the little arm on the left side of the tranny. For a colum shift it sits upward. For a floor shifter it need to be in the down position. I guess the colum shift tv cable is routed to approch the little arm from the rear of the vehicle but a floor shift tv cable approches from the front of the vehicle.

So thats it? You didn't have to go into the insides of the thing and start takin out the valve body and removing the arm entirely you just fliped the outside piece?

you have to drop the pan, loosen one nut, slid the lever out just enough to clear the shoulder, rotate gear selector 180 and reinstall the nut and pan. it was very simple on mine. be careful of the tv cable rod that goes through the gear selector, you can slide it off of the "do-hicky" (technical term) inside and it will no allow for smooth operation and could be detramental to your tranny.
