Default Rebuilt Steering Box or Flaming River??

Does a rebuilt original '66 steering box provide the same feel as a new unit would from Flaming River?

I want to get the FR tilt paintable column and have already had my steering box completely rebuilt but have not had a chance to test it yet as the car is getting painted.

Was wondering if I should sell my rebuilt unit and getting a FR if the performance is much better.

Thoughts??

I'm almost at your point. I need the box rebuilt and column too. Everyone is saying that the Ididit column is a lot easier to put in an wire. Nothing against FR cuz I heard they have the best rack. I'm leaning to the Ididit column and converting to a FR rack.

Where is he located? No one good around here. The entire front end was done. The only thing I have left is the column and the gearbox. I just figured it would be nice to have a rack.

You can buy a kit and rebuild the steering box yourself for about $40-50. I was leery but forged ahead, very rewarding and not very difficult. Of course, mine's not on the road yet.....

Can't comment on the steering.. I went Power R&P.. however..

I just ordered the Ididit brushed aluminum tilt column with the Wiper and high/low beam headlight Dimmer switch options. No more reaching through the steering wheel to turn on the wipers and between the gas, brake & clutch the wife preferred to have the dimmer switch on the column. Since the wiper is only on/off it is not a plug 'n play with our (67/68) wiper motors. I plan on wiring it through an intermittent wiper control box that I'll have which will be mounted up under the dash and the intermittent dial control in the console somewhere.

If your interested in the options its best to call Ididit, tell them what you want and they will give you all the part numbers for each item plus the Custom order number. They will then tell you to call Summit, Jegs, etc to place the order. Ididit quoted me almost a 1000.00 for the column w/options and Summit was under 600.00. Its all in the Volume from the big vendors. The paintable columns are much cheaper.

btw.. when I called Ididit last week I talked to Kelly. She was very kind, helpful and explained everything in detail. Also note that some custom orders can take 3 to 4 weeks before you get.
