Vacuum line
And that IS NOT a bad thing IMO...
NEVER MIND...
Should have read one more post before answering...

Ok I went out and bought a new diaphragm assembly as well as the rubber hose. I hooked it up according to the pictures and all seems ok. Now what is the best way to adjust my timing. I have been reading online and this is what I am guessing:
Take off vaccum line and set for 6 degrees at idol.
Then with vaccum line back on set to 36 degrees. I read you can adjust vaccum on the new diaphragm with an allen key. Now the second adjustment must be made at the diaphragm correct?
Any thing I am missing before attempting. Once again I have never done this before. I am borrowing a timing light off a guy.

nah.
disconnect the vacuum advance at distributor side and block the hose (so carb can't pull air through there). 8 degrees in idle.
then with vacuum advance still disconnected slowly rev the engine and the timing should further advance. 34 degrees at 3000 maxxing out is about good. if there's any difference that can be corrected with different springs or stoppers on the centrifugal weights.
plug the vacuum advance back in and drive. I don't have data to adjust the vacuum advance. its guesswork and trial and error
if you hook up the vacuum to the manifold port of distributor (instead of ported) you will need to re-set the carburator (curb idle and mixture screws) as idle will increase with the thing plugged in.
