You don't have to spend $50 for a solid state one, you can buy the part at Radio Shack for a few bucks. There was a thread in the last week or 2 about it with instructions.

That's what I was getting at. 5V DC solid state regulators can be bought at Radio shack for about $3 and the rest of the materials you would need are about another $3. However, that would be 5v constant DC, not pulsed. I will hunt up the other thread to see what it says. Sounds like the gauges don't care if it is pulsed or constant though.

I found the other thread and it sounds like it didn't work. Looked like the guy trying to do it just used the solid state regulator chip, but that by itself probably can't handle the current. You would need a few more components. I guess I'll see if I can find more info.

I also recall another way to make one from a Mopar site. I think I printed it out and have it at home. If I do, I'll post a link for it.

My brother in law who is my electrical go to guy mentioned the radio shack home built unit also. He remembered his dad making them years ago but we couldn't at that time find the plans for it.
I found it strange that the original mechanical unit worked for 40 years but three replacements wouldn't work at all.
I found this on a Google search. Looks like the one I got.

We are going to build our own from Radio Shack parts.

If all else fails, I will probably be buying the electronic one from Paddock, since it is 20 dollars cheaper than NPD.

I found it odd as well that our original one still works, but makes the gauges read low. The others we have from 66 etc make them read high. The new one I just bought reads makes them read way too high and actually is erratic. They should just quit making them and only sell the electronic ones, if they can't make them work right.

Here is the thread i started https://mustangforums.com/forum/clas...g-the-cvr.html I did not say the Mod did not work, just not for me. The Mod has not worked out for me because of other issues (mini tac). Now that i have narrowed the problem i will be puting in the solidstate CVR and see if it works. Or i will try again
