Which carb should I get????????????
If you have a relatively stock engine and are clueless about carbs or things mechanical, get the Edelbrock because you wont have enough adjustability in it to screw it up and it will be close enough for a daily driver.
If you have an engine that is modified and will make some serious power and you arent inept with carbs and theory, a Holley will do quite well.
If you dont have a bunch of cash and you are quite knowledgeable about carburetor tuning, a Quadrajet or ThermoQuad carb will deliver the same power as Holley while giving better driveability and economy, but you need to know what you are doing. Before you say they are junk, bear in mind there are Qjets running in the 9s with no nitrous and on stock intake manifolds. They simply have a wide range of adjustments and most people are completely clueless about how they work never mind how to tune one.
If you have enough money or know someone who will set up and tune your stock EFI system for cheap, then go with EFI unless your engine is quite radical and naturally aspirated. If it is pretty radical, like the cam is over 270@.050 then you wont really be considering mileage and street manners as much as someone with a mild 302 and a 218@.050 cam. Not that EFI cant be made to work with radical engines, it just isnt in most peoples price range to do so.
All of them will work on your car. How well depends entirely on what it is intended to do as well as who makes changes to it, if any.
I like all of them except the Edelbrock carbs. Never had any luck with them, they always run slower, burn more gas, harder to start, and trying to make them work on most of my engines is more trouble than they are worth. Nothing I own is stock and there just isnt enough wiggle room with the E carb to allow me to utilize one effectively.

There's one coming up for auction in a couple of weeks. Save your pennies!

Thumpin, no offense, but I've got my Edelbrock Performer 600 tuned just about perfect on my 331. I'm running a Comp Cams Magnum 280H w/Rhoads lifters, hardly what I'd call stock. It took a little tuning, but it's running perfectly now. No driveability issues, decent mileage (considering the cam and gearing). The only real problem I've seen with them is that the stepup spring selection gets interesting with a lopey cam.
Hey,, HOLY CRAP?? What happend to my thread.. You guys are great. Ive been busy at work and havent checked it in a day or so.. Man, a little off topic?? LOL.
I ended up with the Holley 670 street avenger!!! Its a thing of beauty, and yes I will tune the hell out of it. Rich and Dustin at CPR had it for me in about 7 hours from the time I called and said I want it.. Also got a great deal on a used Performer intake that they blasted and clear coated for me. I start putting it together tonight. Ill post some pics when i get a chance..

there is a huge difference in tunability and price between a street avenger and and HP holley thats why demon carbs are such a good value, I'm selling my prosystems 950hp, keeping my demon for a spare and going to the powerjection 3 or the new fast ez efi, the new high pressure TBI's are like having the best finely tuned carb in power yet better throttle response, TQ, mpgs, and it will tune itself in changing conditions like weather and altititude.
TBI, nor any fuel injection can't emulsify fuel like a carb can, so that's one advantage a carb always has. If someone could develop a system where a TBI could somewhow emulsify the fuel like a carb or accomplish something similar, it'd produce excellent power.
In the end though, EFI technology is changing, and more and more cars are going to direct injection. A carb, TBI or port injection just simply can't keep up with direct injection technology. Direct injection allows a level of contol over combustion that simply isn't available with any of the other systems.

booger you are some bollocks :-) you ask for which carb to get. We are having discussions, rows and insults and then you come back saying you never checked the replies and bought the 670 holly .... tststss
But then again I am well tempted to log in as a different user with a new thread "525 or 600 cfm for a 289?" and see what happens :-)
