We need a lot more information about your car. Was it an original V8 car? Or was it an I6? If it was an I6, you are going to have to do some upgrades before slapping in a V8. Let us know.

Ok, with that information, we know that a 302 will fit in the engine bay of the 66, and that suspension upgrades won't be necessary. You will have the 5 bolt hubs on the front, so that is a good thing. Make sure you do have the 5 bolt hubs to determine if it was truly a V8 car. Now, how hot do you want this Mustang to be? Are you looking for a street racer, drag racer, daily driver...Or what? That information will determine which crate engine you need to look for.

How much cash are you looking to spend on this to get it running? (including Motor, trans work, etc) Or is this going to be a ongoing project?

Crate engines are expensive. Mainly because they build them with mods for power hungry folks. My sugesstion, is that you try to find a 302 for sale in your area, and builld it to your liking. You can get mild 302 complete crate engines, but they are about 3 thousand bucks. Add a tranny to the package and you are looking at 5 grand for the engine and tranny alone. And that is just for a street cruiser. It just all depends on how much you are willing to spend, and how much mechanical knowledge and wrenching ability you have.

ok i got another question now, ive been talkin to people around i know and ive found two potential sellers of a 302, one comes out of an 80's lincon and one out of a early 70's mustang, at least thats what im told, how universal is this motor, which will work and not work, also any personal preferences on going with a newer fuel injected motor or not, even worth it? im gettin lots of info and these are some of the things im not sure on yet, thanks

Personally, I do not like the 4.6 & 5.4 FI modular engines in the newer mustangs, I dont really feel they are built very well. IMO
The engine from the the 80s lincoln, I would probably stay away from. If the early 70s engine is good, then what year, and check it out. Once again IMO Feel free to correct me.
