Opinions wanted
First time poster here needs some opinions. My father passed away a few years back and left my mom with many of his "toys" sitting out back in the field and now my mom is looking to clean house. One of the "toys" was a 1964 1/2 Mustang coupe. The thing has sat in the field for 20 years now so you could imagine the kind of shape it is in. Petty rusty, no motor, no trans. Some of the sheet metal could be salvageable, glass is good condition and some trims pieces are still in good shape. The only other thing about this car is that it was # 64 off the assy line. What advice I am looking for is this thing worth anything? What should we part out and scrape the rest? Thanks

It's not fair to answer your question without a better assessment of the vehicle. If it's a complete rustang down to the frame, or if it had serious collision damage, it might just be a good parts car and should be sold as such.
However, if you vin ends 00064 and the chassis and most of the car is salvagable, it should be restored.
We are currently in a very soft market for classic cars because of the overall economy. There are many people in need of cash and the first thing that goes when the mortgage is due and you've been laid off is the weekend cruiser. THere's tons of Mustangs for sale right now. If you want to maximize your return, hold on to the car for another year or two if you can.
I'd love to see it. Post some pix here. A neglected car can look really bad, especially if it needs paint, but often it's not very far from a restored state.
Good luck.

I could see if it was one of the first 10 off the assembly line but do you guys think that after that anyone would pay extra for a "low" number car? I kinda have the feeling that saying its number 64 off the line is about the same as number 100,000...Am I way off on this?

Thanks for all your replies. I think the car will end up being parted out. I know that a few people have already asked my Mom for some parts off of it. As for pics, I live a few hours away from my Mom and next time I get up there i will post some pics of both her Mustangs. She also has a 68 conv. that she drives around in the summer.
