sound deadener in trunk

sound deadener in trunk
I read a number of threads on sound deadener and have decided to go with fatmat (seems like a good compromise between performance and price). Now I need to decide where to put it and how much I need. I have a vert so I can't do the roof. Is it worth doing the doors and the trunk? Would 50 square feet be enough? If I decide to do the trunk, will the trunk mat still fit over it?

It is definately worth doing the trunk. I had only gone up just past where my shock mounts were when I put my car on the road. And with all of the carpet installed and the seats it was still pretty loud with my flowmaster 40's.. So I lined about half of the trunk floor (not the tank) and I put a full sheet kind of high up into each quarter pannel and it cut the noise from the back down by at least 35% I cant wait to finish up the trunk. I used deamplifier matting.. 100 sqft and I did the floors, firewall, 1/2 trunk, and roof. I still have 4 or 5 sheets left for the rest of the trunk or the doors if I decide to.

It's worth doing as much as you can as possible, I did the inside of the doors (if you have an early model mustang it may be hard to get the sound deadener in there), the floor, firewall (doubled up in some spots), the roof (2 layers), the wheel wells, and trunk (2 layers on gas tank for "slushing" noise). I used eDead and it works GREAT and is a good price. I've heard great things about fatmat as well, so you can't go wrong with that. 50 sq feet should definitely cover it, and if you have extra's try to put it in other places you can get to (firewall for engine noise, doors for wind noise, floors for everything noise, etc). The sound deadener stuff really does work, I can actually have a conversation in my car easily, even with my burnt out glasspacks and on the freeway. My car would really be quiet if my windows would seal
Oh and you should be able to fit the rubber mats on top, the sound deadener is very thin...
here's some pics of what I did

I'd stay away from fatmat.
It is literaly "peel and seal" that you can buy at home improvment stores with a blue logo on it.
You'd do much better running something like raamat if you want good performace for the price. Edead 45 would also be good on floors, but the adhesive tends to give up on vertical surfaces in the summer heat.

SecondSkin products are great which are Butyl based and not asphalt. I ordered 160sq/ft of Damplifier Pro matting, 5gal Spectrum (undercoating & interior), Firewall (on firewall & tunnel) & 10 sheets Luxury Liner Pro.
- 160sq/ft DP will do the entire cabin, roof, trunk, quarters & doors.
- 5gal Spectrum will do the entire chassis, wheel wells, interior floors, both sides of trunk divider & doors.
- 1 pal Firewall will do the firewall and tunnel. Sand with 80 then 240 & paint for a nice smooth finish. Beware that it contains sand/silica so wear a respirator if sanding.
- 6 or 7 sheets of LLP would be enough but whats left over I'll put in my truck.
