Default Best undercoating

I plan on cleaning up my wheel wells in the next couple of weeks and need advice on which undercoating (spray in) works best. Or what has worked best for your application. Any advice is great..

I've used truck bedliner with good success. I did it on a Ford Ranger truck I used to have. It had some rust in the wells of the truck bed and I just nocked them off with a wire wheel. Then I just scuffed the factory paint and sprayed the spray on bedliner. I also did the truck bed at that time too. The wheel wells held up real good. The bed not so good, but still OK. I wound up recoating the bed with the roll on bedliner and it was more durable for a truck bed application. The spray on stuff in the aerosol cans worked fine in the wheel wells though. I used the spray on for the entire bottom of my mustang after removing as much rust as I could and treating the rest. I then primered and bedlined.

I've used the can undercoating, about $8 / can at the auto parts.

Stuff is tough to get off when it is on there and repels water, etc.

I am working on my wheel wells / inner fenders as we speak. I spent the last couple of nights knocking off a bit of surface rust, cleaning off road grime / dirt. Last night I "painted" some of the surface rust with a rust converter. I am thinking about painting mine before putting on the undercoat....

On mine, they had a lot of the factory gunk left over on them. So I used paint thinner and a scrapper to get down to bare metal. Then used some Rustoleum rust preventative primer and sprayed on some undercoating. Looking back now I will I would have used some bedliner first. I used bedliner on my engine bay, and that stuff is REALLY tough.

Honestly I do not like any of the undercoating stuff. All the old timers I know say to stay away from it. If any of the undercoating gets chipped or scratched etc. It will get moisture behind it and hold it in. I always just paint.
