Default Weird noise, crossmember?

Hi friends,

My rumbling problem when launching the car came back. I stopped somewhere in louisiana and took a look: the thing that goes thru the crossmember touches it on the right side, is that normal? What does the crossmember do?

Thanks, still a long way to go!

I'd love a picture of this! Are you talking about the tubular crossmember under the engine that attaches with a single large bolt on each side?

Yes, that's exactly that!

The thing that goes thru touches it on the right...

What thing that goes through it? It's a tube without any (large) holes in it...

Thats what I'm sitting here thinking... nothing goes through it. Got a camera with you? .. a pic is worth a 1000 words.. and in this case could show us exactly the problem.

Sorry, obviously i am not talking about the right thing!

There is a tubular metal piece a little before the beginning of the driveshaft, it is perpendicular to the car.

What's its name? I dont have a pic right now.

The bar for the e-brake? A cable attached to it? Where does it go to or come from?

Wishing it wasn't 1:30am or I had my service manual and such here to look through.

Pfiou, I have reached New Orleans, it was raining and I really don't like driving the Mustang at night. I can now write from a computer, forums from an iPhone down the road is painful

I really appreciate all of you trying to help me in this huge road trip, I understand that I used the wrong name for the part and it got some of you confused.

Here are two quick pics that I took to help identify what we are talking about.

Here you can see from the front, it is wide angle so the part looks further than it really is:

Here is a closup, once again from the front:

What is that? What is going through it? Do you see one reason why it would be touching on the right side?

I am taking a day off from my road trip, I am leaving on Sunday to Memphis TN.

Thanks, it is really difficult to drive 9 hours a day with a small rumbling problem each time you launch the car (and sometimes also at low RPM at any speed).

That's your transmission crossmember. I'm not sure what you're talking about going through it other than the transmission. I'm still a little confused. Are you saying the transmission is rubbing against the floor? Is the rubber mount broken?
