Front Suspension Rebuild, writeup
tried searching but no luck. Does anyone know of a write up on a complete teardown and reassemble on the front suspension and steering, prefferably on a 68. Getting ready to redo all the control arms and tie rods among other things. THanks in advance.
Not off the top of my head, but do a search of Mustang Monthly or Mustang and Fords. That's the sort of thing they used to do regularly in their rags when they'd get a set of brakes, arms, strut rods, etc..to throw on.
I have just finished the front suspension on my 68, and will be putting the steering together within the next week or 2. I will be glad to answer any specific questions you have. There are several things to be thinking about when you are doing it. What kind of ride you want, ride hight, engine setup, type of driving you want to do, etc. Give me a PM anytime.
I redid my suspension last year this might help out a little bit

Thanks alot everyone for your replies, starfury will most mustang parts houses have one of those manuals? do i get the suspension specific one or the general service manual?
But for an update, today i got the entire passenger side suspension and steering tore down. Heres some questions i have now, the factory coil spring is wayyyy taller than the 620 lb. drop spring i have next to it. ITs way more than an inch taller, is this normal?
I cant seem to get the strut rod out, anybody have a trick for this one? And lastly, i have really been looking at the CSRP kits lately and am going to place my order in the morning. Since the spindle is already off the car, would i be ahead to buy the swap 3, which is the 68-73 kit. I currently have 17's on the car, but if i were to ever sell it i would take off the rims, and the swap3 kit allows for the use of the factory 14 inch wheels. again, any help is appreciated. thanks again.

Get the Ford Factory Service Manual. It covers everything except body work. Suspension, brakes, wiring, interior, the works.
I would do the 68-73 brake kit. It's a solid kit, affordable, OE, and like you said, it will allow smaller wheels in the future.
Yes, the spring height difference is normal. The 620 lb spring won't compress nearly as much so it doesn't need to be as tall.
Where are you trying to get the strut rods out of? The LCA or the front supports?
I'd really recommend roller perches and the Shelby drop while you have everything apart. The shelby drop will drastically improve handling by fixing the stock suspension geometry, and the roller perches will allow the suspension to move more freely, giving a smoother, more responsive ride.

I just sent you the word doc. I put on there a brake kit you need to look at before you order. Those strut rods are pressed in the lower control arm. You have to get something between the two and pry them apart. Also, my springs were had about 4 inches difference from each other. The drop springs are stiffer to give you a more performance ride. This causes them to travel less, so they are shorter.
i am having trouble getting the strut rod loose from the front supports. i have all new bushings for it, so i want to rebuild it while i have everything apart. Also, do the idler arm bushings just pound out somehow? because i also have new bushings for them. i am going to do the shelby drop as soon as i get the parts in the mail. ordered the template and drill bit from daze cars. also, im thinking about ordering the 1" Addco front sway bar kit, will this be too big or not big enough for a casual cruiser. Thanks again guys. And kevin, thanks a ton man, going to print that document off and take it out to the shop, stuff like that really keeps me in order when im out there working.
