Angry 70 Mustang Fan Shroud Issues

I have a 351c 4bbl with a 5-blade flex fan. Last summer under heavy acceleration, the top of my fan shroud got pulled down into the fan and shredded. As it turns out, the shroud I had was for a '69 351W, so I attributed the issue to that. I recently bought the correct shroud, which was a bit stiffer and had a bit more clearance on the top. Well, this week, I heard the same noise when stomping on it. Lo and behold I get home and there are scuff marks on the inside top of the shroud.

There is more than adequate clearance between the fan and the shroud... why is the top pulling down like this? Its almost like I need to put some sort of bracket on the top to attach the top of the shroud to the radiator and hold it in place. Have any of you had similar issues???

Thanks.
Bob

My thought was also the left motor mount is bad allowing the motor to lift.

Yes, the motor mounts are bad. Replace them both. I prefer the poly mounts - a little bit stronger, and less engine movement. I've had the poly mounts in my track monster for 4 years now, and they're still in good shape.

Thanks guys. I will give it a shot. Its just a matter of the rubber going bad and not something actually "broken" right? Have you had any fit or alignment issues with aftermarket mounts?

i just now read your problem and I fully agree to the lads. Motor mount problem

"Its just a matter of the rubber going bad and not something actually "broken" right?"
the rubber could be bad or torn. Aftermarket mounts that are meant for your car/engine should not be any problem (fitting issues)

Talking Problem Solved!

Gents,

You guys were right on! I ordered the Prothane mounts from Summit, and swapped them yesterday. Lo and behold, when I took the driver-side mount off, this is what I found:

Took it to the Saturday cruise in last night and had no issues. Thanks again!!!

Glad it turned out to be something so simple and easy to fix.
