How much would this help?
So I was chewing the fat with one of my buddies and we got to talking about cars. My friend doesn't know anything about cars, but he knows a lot about software for computers and stuff. He asked me what I would like to see for a computer program. (Bare with me here this story has a point.) I told him I would like to see a true 3-D rendering of a car that has every part on it listed and can be taken from the car and examined. For me I am a visual guy, I like to SEE how things work compared to reading about them. I thought that a program where you could tear a car apart and then put it back together to your specs would be sweet. Do you know if there is such a program out there? And do you think that the private sector would appreciate a product like this? Naturally I was thinking first and foremost about us Mustang owners out there, but it would be cool to see it for all classics. What do you guys think?
That's going to be such a huge undertaking... thousands of parts must be rendered and "fit" inside the program. Then you end up with one car...
The cost and time to do something like that doesn't seem feasible to me. It would be a neat tool finished for sure, but it would not be cheap to do.

That is true, it would be a huge undertaking, but I think that once you had all the generic parts done you could swap them to other cars. power steering pumps, dizzys, exhaust manifolds, intakes, etc. they would almost be interchangeable with other cars out there no matter the make. Most of the information is out there, it just needs to be digitized. Granted building a car in a 3-D environment to your specs is where it would be the most time consuming to program, so maybe just how the car would come stock? I also was thinking about just a repair program where you would ask a question, ie "How do I replace a water pump?" and a demonstration is ran to see how its done. I know that programs such as mitchell and all data have all the steps available to do that particular job. So its really just a matter of displaying the information in a different format. Who knows maybe its all too big to be done right.
It won't do 3D rendering, but Collector Car Companion is a nice (and inexpensive) software tool that's helps you track just about everything about your Mustang. It will handle a full restoration, a light refresh, or just regular maintenance.
