Default Testing a Starter

Is there a method to see if your starter is working correctly? I have a starter that seems to get heated up and will not crank. But After the engine cools for 10 mins or so, The engine will crank over.

Strange.

Take it to Autozone or such and have them run a test. It checks for load/capacity

Best to load check it in the car. I've seen them work fine on the bench even when shot.

Takes an informed person to work a bench tester. There's more to it than 'good' or 'bad.' I can read the waveform to see if the brushes are failing, but most people can't.
