Default HELP ME :(

Hello there so I spent today installing the stupid fuel pressure regulator and finally got it in but still have a tiny gas leak that doesn't drip but is still there (need more thread sealant i guess)

anyways beyond that I set my fuel pressure to 5.5 PSI, this is an edelbrock 1406 carb.

When I rev the engine in park it sounds fine no missing and what not but when I went to take it for a drive the car had a constant miss.

I also took out the front 2 spark plugs last night and I am thinking maybe I did not tighten them back in enough and that is the cause of this miss?

It said 1/16th of a turn so once it got hand tight I barley turned it at all.

Do you guys have any ideas on why this is, can it be the spark plugs?

I surely hope so this has been a horrible day of fail :'(

Check for bad or disconnected wires, or bad plugs(cracked insulators etc).

I'd set the regulator at 6.5psi. The Edelbrock should be happy until 7. You definitely need to fix that leak, though.

If you had a spark plug loose, you'd have a really loud tap/pop from under your hood. That said, thread by hand until flush, then snug down maybe 1/16 to 1/4 turn.

Why do you need a fpr with a carbed engine? Do you have an electic fuel pump?

As far as the leaking goes, are you sure the threads on the fitting aren't screwed up?

What plugs did you put back in, could you get the new ones in?

Ok so.
Tomorrow I'm going to fix the last leak putting some thread sealant on the leaks stopped them but I guess I didn't put enough on one thread so it formed a tiny leak that doesn't even drip (it might even be coming from the vaccum gauge I can't tell its so minor I can't see it just feel wetness.

I installed a fuel pressure regulator becuase my fuel pump was putting out 8-9psi which was just dumping gas so I decided to bring that down to 5.5 which I will now bump up to 6.5psi before I tune it.

And no I guess I can't use the spark plugs because I have e6 heads :/ so I'll have to get a new set of 104s

If its not the spark plugs do you think it was driving like that because of fuel deprivation? Because it was like a constant stutter while pressing on the gas and then I just put it in neutral down the hill back home and it idled fine in the garage still just didn't drive fine.

what fittings are you using?

If you are not using a pressure type fitting the one where one end has a cone and the other end has a machined surface for that cone to press against...it will never seal.

pictures might help of assembled and disassembled said fitting.

If they're pipe thread (tapered thread), permatex liquid thread sealer. If they're not pipe, they seal on the flared fittings and all the thread sealer in the world won't help you.

I agree with what Starfury said. When you say more leaks exist, how many more and are they all fuel leaks?

I THINK you may be mixing fitting types.. inverted flare, AN, pipe threads etc.

Frankly plumbing is a bitch.... and plumbing fuel lines is VERY OFTEN a lesson on fitting and thread compatability.

Take a close up photo of your disassembled fittings and we should be able to help...

The FPR and leaks probably have nothing to do with your miss.. and if the sparkplugs are seated they are not the cause of your miss either. as mentioned check the plug wires over.

^^^The FPR COULD be a cause of your miss if it is one of those cheap bastards they sell at AutoZone". If so these will come with the 1/4" PLASTIC hose connections that WILL leak.

Thes regs are POSes, that might work on Skater Tom's Civic, but they are too small and cheap for a V-8.

Buy a HOLLEY FPR....
