Default Examination questions....

Hello world, I need some suggestions of examination questions for a classic mustang pre-start restoration help examination. Here's how the exam works... BEFORE you start helping with the restoration you must pass this exam to make sure that you have at least a little bit of car working on experience, know the basics of how a car works, and so that I dont get a bunch of people who claim to have worked on cars and have this vast background on car working experience, but then in truth, they have NO experience whatsoever and they lied. No one wants a liar and ESPECIALLY someone who doesn't understand the least about cars working on a mustang of that age and one that me and my friend have already put a lot of time and effort into right? Well here's the solution! thanks in advance to all that have helped!

The categories are:
  1. General auto repair, maintenance, restoration.
  2. Safety.
  3. Basic mechanics of a classic Mustang.
  4. Parts of a classic Mustang.
  5. Fluid names, location, and purposes.
  6. Changing certain fluids/parts of a classic Mustang steps.

Thanks everyone for your contributions.... I really appreciate it!

Benjamin

So you want people to be able to pass an exam before they can help you???

I think he wants advice in all of those areas, and wants people to share their knowlege.

I thought that there was a thread similar to this a week or so ago. I'll see if I can find it. I think it already has some info.

Yes I do as a matter of fact. While no plan is completely fool-proof, those who want to help must pass this exam before they can help so I DONT have to repeat the work i have already done on my mustang because some idiot lied to me about having even a SLIGHT car maintenance/repair background. I have done SOOOOO much already and having to start over or re-trace my steps due to some liar would not be something I would be rather fond of doing, dont you agree? And I want suggested QUESTIONS, or facts that I can turn into questions. Thanks, reply below with any questions...

Put yourself in my shoes for a minute, wouldn't you hate the idea of doing all this work to a mustang in the restoration process and then have some liar (who said before that they have worked on cars a bunch) come over and screw everything up? It makes sense when you think about it.

Join a local classic Mustangs club and get to know the members. You'll learn who the respected folks are for general help, electrical, mechanical, paint, etc. Could also join a Classic Car club as they typically have more members. Just an idea.

Benjamin,
Boy, not sure if you will get a lot of help by demanding qualifications first. I think if you watch the board and answers you get an idea of who knows thier stuff in different areas. I dont think anyone here would intentionally give you a wrong answer just to try to blow smoke because they would be called on it.
I think most here have "Been There, Done That" and if we dont know the answer, someone will pipe in and everyone learns.
Just my 2 cents

I appreciate the idea "Adrenolin", however I only want to have people (at least for now) that I have known for at least a couple months.... Thanks for the idea, I will definitely remember it.

Criss66dad, I see that, however while working on ALL cars (no matter how big or small the task(s) ) should be a learning experience (at least in my opinion), my 'stang should be no exception, however I believe that if no one has even done the smallest task as an oil change, they shouldn't work on a car, if they dont know how to do some basic under-hood checks (silly example), they they shouldn't help. I have done a bunch of work on my 'stang and so has a few of my other friends (before I made this exam for numerous reasons, read above) and I would HATE to start over JUST because we let someone help who has ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE HOW TO EVEN DO THE MOST BASIC WORK ON A CAR.

seriously?
anyone with SOOOOOOOOOOOO much work in their car either has no conception of what amount of work is involved in these cars, or should be able to determine good advice from bad, especially something that would make you have to retrace all your steps.

I cannot imagine a single piece of advice that would make you retrace everything you put into something like this, except maybe push it over a cliff, but if i was gonna blow smoke to intentionally make you make a mistake i could pass that test and then tell you to drain the oil and run it for 10 minutes. But if it comforts you any...

Basic Auto Repair:

Wont Crank; In this order

-Check Battery
-Check Battery Terminals at Battery, Solenoid, Ground and Starter
-Solenoid
-Voltage Regulator
-Starter

-Cranks But will not start
Diagnose either no spark or no fuel...
Pull a plug...
if its wet no spark
if its dry lay ti against the exhaust manifold and crank, takes two people, but if it sparks your not getting fuel

No fuel:
Out of gas
Clogged Fuel Line
Broken Fuel Pump
Something Wrong with carb, clogged jet, broken pump diapragm etc...

No Spark:
Points (if you have 'em get rid of them)
Plugs
Plug Wires
Coil

Spark and fuel no run:
Check Firing Order
Check voltage to coil
Pull spark plug one, insert a drinking straw, turn by hand with coil unplugged until TDC
Check to assure distributor is in correct position

Maintenance:
Changing Oil: -.-
Pull plug
Insert Plug
Add Oil

Rotate Tires:
Right Front to Left Rear
Left Front To Right Rear
Right Rear to Right Front
Left Rear to Left Front.

Spark Plugs:
Not that f'ing difficult

Is that good for ya... im getting bored

when are midterms?
