BELIEVE ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bonded lininigs have been known to come loose. Been there, Done that! Also I have seen two others come loose on cars other than my own over the years. IT HAPPENS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, the down side to riveted linings is that you have to do adequate maintenance such that they never wear to a point of scoring the drums. Had you been in a car in rush hour, high speed freeway traffic when a bonded lining came loose, you would have no trouble frequently checking riveted linings after that experience.

The "shoe grinder" you mention was called a "Tru Arc" machine. They would most certainly be illegal today due to the asbestos being ground off the lining and put into the air. Back in the day, tru arcing shoes made for a quality brake job. My Dad had a Tru Arc machine in his shop circa 1955.

Excellent, name brand total rebuild packages can be bought for under $155.00, why piece together the parts?
