Default 1965 2+2 Drip Rail Replacement

I'm pretty sure that this isn't the first time that this topic has showed it's face in these forums, but I'm going to bring it up again. I have a 65 2+2 that has a lot of rust damage. Beside re-fabricating the a pillars and door jambs, I must now replace the drip rails. I know that they aren't made for the 65's but they are made for the 67-68's. Is there anybody who has used the 67 fastback drip rails on a 65 2+2??? If so how difficult was it??? If not how difficult could it be??? Any insight provided would be greatly appreciated.

Since they were quite similar in contour, you could probably make them work with little trouble. However, the bottom end at the back is shorter on the 67-8, you may have to section the repair.

You will also want to check the width, to make sure the moulding will attach.

you might be able to find a donor roof to cut them out of or if it is only a portion that is bad I would try to cut and splice what you will need. Once you attempt to remove your drip rails you will find that your roof skin is attached at that point and depending on your fab skills you may run into some problems with warpage.

You may also consider shaving them off completely.

Hi I'm in the same boat and looking for drip rails for a 66. I'm in the process of converting a coupe to a fastback. I started attempting to restore the car and found too much rust on roof, rear quarters and rear glass area so I decided to turn my car into a fastback. I have a 68 fastback and I am planning to check the shape of the drip rail once I get 66 fastback door glass. I don't know when I'll have a chance to hunt them down.

FYI, I hope you are aware the that the drip rail is spot welded under the roof panel to the roof support and might be easier to replace the roof panel also.
