How do I lower my front end a couple of inches without spending a lot of cash?

+1

Coils aren't super expensive (I think my 1" drop 540's from OpenTracker were $90), and the UCA drop is essentially free. The latter is more for handling improvement (with no downside at all), but it will also drop the front about 1/2", plus or minus.

Before you consider changing springs, etc., do this. It'll lower the front end as a side effect, and significantly improve your handling.

If I cut the springs do I need to get the front end aligned?

Yes, you do need to get it an alignment afterwards. No matter how you do it, you will have to do that though, unless they have drop spindles for your car. You can cut your springs, which is free, and you will have a stock type ride with the same suspension travel. You may have more trouble with tires rubbing that way though. You can also do drop springs. The weight you need depends on the engine setup you have mainly. They are cheap too. I got mine from Mustangs Unlimited for around 70 bucks. The Shelby drop is also another free way to drop it some. Like said before, you don't get a lot of drop, but it greatly improves handling. Just pay attention to where the holes will end up being. I didn't do it on mine because the holes were going to end up on a thinner part of the shock tower. There have been some guys that have welded some pieces on there to thicken it up though.
