Default Progress on the car thus far.

So today I decided to take a trip to Napa and get some sand paper and primer and tackle some of the rust on my car...

Before!

Now during this process I noticed a BIG glob of bondo behind the quarter window and found this!

Can that be fixed easily?... Like cut it out and put a lil piece of metal? Or what?? Also I noticed something else

The metal is a different color then the rest of the quarter area... AND the line of bondo in a crevice AND the dots... perhaps it was replaced at some point?... Not a very good job with the giant piece eaten away yes?... What would I take to fix it?

AND

AFTER!

I got as much of the rust off as I could, some of it wouldn't come off like little specs here and there inside like lines in the metal... Can that cause a problem down the line??

I still have alot more to do around there, I just wanted to get the major part of the rust off before it turned into something worse... But yea... Eventually I'm going to do that to the whole car.

Whatcha think? Not bad for Rattle Can Primer, eh?

That quarter was replaced but it looks like they did a good job on it. The area of bondo you're talking about is where the original body seam is between the roof and the quarter panel. The different color metal is because that factory seem was filled with lead. I hope you didn't breathe a lot of that stuff in when you were sanding.

what about the area right at the window where there's a chunk taken out? weld in a chunk of metal? Or is that supposed to be there?

i did have some rust in that area... the corner right byt he end of the drip rail. I had to cut it out and tack in a new piece of sheet metal. remember if you leave rust, it is bound to haunt you.

There was a gap there from the factory. I can't really tell from the picture but it doesn't look like there is any metal missing from that area. There may have been a little more lead around there but there was always a gap.

Here are a couple pics of mine. These are the only ones I could find showing that area, They aren't close up so its hard to tell but you can see the gap.

I have a gap there in mine as well.

*Are you using a fork lift to lift up your car? That is awesome.

Nope, pure man power. lol

The fork lift comes in handy though the car gets heavy after a while.
