1968 Fastback Restore Question
I am going to restore this 68 and have a few questions. It is a stock 68 fastback, 289 with auto trans. How many were built? Would it be better to restore it like it is or get custom with it? Any advise from here?
Keep the paint original color (unless you hate it, then pick a 68 color) and avoid obvious modifications like flared quarters. You can make a pretty stout car without going all "Eleanor". For relatively low bucks, you can upgrade the handling, exhaust, and engine performance.
Shelby/Arning upper control arm drop, GT springs, GR-2 shocks, 1" front sway bar, Traction Masters (not the fakes) 4V manifold with Edelbrock 600, well-tuned distributor, Pertronix I, upgrade hydraulic cam, heads port-matched to 289HP manifolds or shorties, 2" duals with H pipe. This can all be done well under $2k, and you won't believe it's the same car.

THANKS FOR IN INPUT, THE ORIGINAL COLOR WAS GOLD AND THE CAR IS IN PERFECT CONDITION WITH ONLY 70K MILES. I CONSIDERED THE CARB UPGRADE, HEADERS AND DUAL EXHAUST AND CHANGE OUT THE WHEELS. I THINK I WILL KEEP IT THE ORIGINAL COLOR JUST UPGRADED VERSION. I REALLY WANT TO KEEP IT AS ORIGINAL AS POSSIBLE. WHERE CAN I GET A COPY OF A SHOP MANUAL?
