U-Joint Replacement

wait. Do you install the bearing cups from the inside of the shaft area or from the outside? The way i am trying ti by putting the cups under the shaft and hammering down and its not working. ALSO both my new and old bearing cups seem too big for the the wholes now for some reason. i can not get the old ones back in either! lol
what a failure

Stop using a hammer! It is much easier to just use a vise, virtually no risk of losing the needle bearings.
Put the driveshaft end into a vise and one of the new u-joint cups (on the outside) aligned with the hole. Place bare u-joint into driveshaft but leave loose for now. Start tightening the vise and as the cup starts to move, pick up the crossbar and place it as far as you can into the cup you're pressing in. Continue tightening the vise until the cup is flush with the driveshaft flange.
Then re-open the vise, place the opposing cup into position, aligning the crossbar as well as possible, and start tightening the vise. As the cup starts to move make sure you have the crossbar aligned (I cheat it over to the side I'm pressing in). Continue pressing until it is flush.
Repeat for the other 2 cups (if for the front u-joint, otherwise you're done).
