Default restoring painted data/door plate

soo the car was repainted back in 75ish shortly after my great gpa bought it.

problem is the guy that painted it didnt tape off/remove the door plate and painted the jams as well.

im wondering if theres a way to strip the paint off the door plate but not ruin the door plate in the process.

anyone know of anything ?

is the original door plate color painted on and will rub off with some stripper or what?

You can get a reproduction data plate stamped with your car's numbers from Virginia Classic Mustang.

I bought one to replace my data plate which had no paint on it at all, and was extremly pitted.

you can use thinner to try and clean it off, id drill the rivets out so you dont spill any on the car

Drilling is not required with these rivets. Press the center down and it'll get small enough to pull out.

Try boiling the plate and peeling the paint off. Solvents will remove the black paint on the plate quicker than the body color.

You can get a new plate from the source, either AG Backeast or Marti.

oh good call on the boiling. i will have to try that.

yea i had seen that i could order a new one, just thought if i could spend an hour on the original and clean it up (at least get the red paint off) id rather do that and have the original.

LOL I just ran into this today. I have been in the Army for 12 years now and we used this stuff called never dull to clean the tips of our flags the brass of our uniforms and even the brass we fire out of our weapons
anyways....... I used it to clean up the metal and crome on my car it is really pitted and man does it look good the pits did not come out but i have shiny pitted chrome instead of rusted pitted chrome.
ok again anyways......... My data plate was painted to i used it to rub the paint off took 10 minutes and did not push really hard now the plate looks awsome give it a shot if ya want let me know thanks
