Any cooling system flushing advice? Never done this before.

I've never flushed the cooling system, but I have drained it. I can advise the following about draining the system and removing the radiator:

1) Take the cap off

2) Put a container that will hold at least 15 quarts under the radiator (if you're going to take it to a recycling facility, a closed container is much easier unless you want coolant all over your car upholstery)

3) Either with bare hands or a latex glove, unscrew the radiator drain ****. You can let the first rush calm down, then unscrew the drain **** all the way out.

4) Let the draining slow to a trickle. Then try to wiggle the hoses just to get any stray liquid.

5) Take the top hose off the of radiator and take the bottom hose off of the water pump (or put a container under the bottom hose and take it off the radiator). I say this because when you take the radiator out and tip it ever so slightly, liquid will come out of the bottom radiator spout.

6) Reinstall the drain ****.

7) Unbolt the radiator and take it out.

8) Pretty much reverse process to reinstall

My dad paid $150 to have someone flush the system and install my new radiator. Not really worth it to me since after it was done we had to drain the system again completely to get the top end rebuilt.

It came last night, and I got started this morning. As of right now I flushed the system, and
I'm about to remove the old radiator.

When you re-install the fan shroud, make sure the fan clears it completely. This might take a little tweaking of the bolts in the slotted shroud to find the correct position. If the fan can hit the shroud, it will either cause an annoying tapping, or it can even chew up the plastic shroud like it was a potato chip. Test it out before tightening the shroud bolts.

I dont have the shroud yet, as it was on backorder. I should get it in the middle of next week, but I will follow that advice when I get to putting in the shroud.

FYI, you will run hot and even overheat without the shroud, BTW. It's not just to protect your fingers.

Yeah I know. It helps direct the airflow.
