67 coupe to fastback project
ok purists beware dont look!
my wife and i rescued a 67 coupe from junkyard a year and a half ago and happened upon a 68 fastback roof that begged us to take it home with us last weekend....so we did. the coupe was rusted out in floors, front frame and cowel areas and have been repaired. this past week we found the roof of the 68 sitting at a yard on a roof of a buliding and took that as our omen to do a fastback. so the madness begins....... =)

so what happened to the rest of the 68?
good luck, and keep us posted.. with lots of pics.
did you do the cowl and floors yourself or have it outsourced? I am in the middle of replacing the floors and cowl on my 67.

Sweet another nutjob I can identify with! Nothing is too major, we have a welder! Eagerly waiting to see how it comes along, just do me a favor, get a photobucket account so you can post full size pics, you can see more in a bigger pic.
thanks for following the madness....iam hoping to get the welding uv tan this week =)
the 68 highland green roof was cut out by a guy who had a coupe and was going to do the same madness but he was in an accident and totaled his coupe and sold the roof to the yard, i dont know the history of the orginal fastback though. so hopefully the bad luck ended at the last guy who owned it.
as for the 67 work, i did it all myself, i have a lincoln mig/wire fed welder, saws all, cold chisle, ball peen hamer, and a angle grinder/cutter. the floor pans are easy, i just used a cutting wheel traced out the new floor pans and cut them out, on the side i used a chisle and hammer to force the welds apart due to my spot weld cutter being dull, and to tell you the truth i found the chisle to be easy. the cowel was somewhat easy, just had to remove the glass and use the saws all and cut the metal leaving the spot welded part in tact and used a flap sanding disc and sanded it flat, dropped the cowel in and drilled holes in it to accept the wire weld. in fact the whole cowel replacement took an hour to do. (honestly) the front frames where a little tricky in it was a PITA to get the welds seperated but i chisled them as well...call me crazy but i found that easy to do as well. just make sure the car is supported and take measurements to make sure your plumb, that took about a week on and off to do.
T455 is right...nothing is too major!!!! i will also try and get a photobucket account too!
she's alive!! or is it a he since its franken-stang?? well off to the garage to begin mapping the strategy. thanks for following.
