Default electric fan question

so i have a extra radiator fan left over from a 2005 subaru sti engine build

the fan pushes air
has shroud attached
FITS PERFECTLY onto stock radiator in my 66

is this all i would need to hook this up?

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-890015/

would this be benificial? i am not having any overheating problems, but just thought if i had this laying around why not use it, and thought it would be better for the engine it self, not having the weight of that manual fan

Pusher fans are much less efficient than puller fans. A pusher fan can be rewired to be puller fans. From what I have seen on this forum and the discussion about cooling issues/electric fans, most people would agree that the manual fan with a radiator shroud is the best way to cool your car.

Personally I would not install the fan. You might actually cause your car's temp to raise because the airflow will be restricted. But like I said, that "MIGHT" happen.

ok i just went to a friends house and have him take a peek at the fan,..i was wrong,..the fan pulls air,..

so when against the radiator it would be pulling air through the front of the car and blowing it towards the engine,..

I personally run an electric fan and love it. Just make sure that your electric fan shroud covers the whole radiator, otherwise you won't get optimum cooling.

For hookup, I'd get the painless fan relay kit and the Summit brand adjustable controller. That's basically the setup I run with mine(Jegs controller, but probably made in the same factory), works great and it's affordable. The adjustable controller lets you set the fan on temp.

I think if you have a WORKING manual fan that keeps the engine cool you would be NUTS to change to electric....

IMO, an ELECTRIC fan is a COMPROMISE, not a first CHOICE...

I don't think there is an electric fan made that will do as good a job as your manual fan does now.

I might think about upgrading to a clutch fan, but not downgrading to an electric.

Case Closed

Electrics are better for mileage in some cases, just cuz when you're cruising at speed you don't need the fan to turn. Mechanicals work quite well when properly setup though, but I prefer my electric because it only runs when it needs to, and takes up WAY less space, which is my biggest gripe with a mechanical, it seemed like it was always in the way.
