Default vinyl stripes?

anyone have any experience with vinyl stripes? I am debating whether to have them painted on or go the cheaper route and get them in vinyl.

Vinyl kicks *** and wont bubble or peel or chip like paint and looks really good.....for a bout a year then it gets blotchy, cracks develop (everywhere) and in about 3 years you will be out there with a drill and a 3m rubber wheel pealing it all off and then painting it....

If something is worth doing its worth doing right.

Yea I will probably get an idea on the painting costs tomorrow. I have a good paint guy that cuts me deals on paint jobs but Im not sure how experienced he is with painting stripes. Is that your car in your avatar? Are those stripes painted? I purchased the shelby hood scoop and fiberglass rear bumper that will be painted and striped as well so I am not sure how vinyl would work with those. Most likely I will go painted.

yes the stripes are painted and yes they were vinyl before and yes i spent a day with a rubber wheel removing them once they cracked up like dry mud.

I pained the stripes myself and no its not perfect I screwed up the right front on the hood. Its blistered badly around the hood scoop bodyfiller so I have to do it over with out the screw up this time.

Only experience I have had with vinyl is it can be very difficult to apply without getting lots of tiny air bubbles under it. It can look OK until the sun heats it up and then the bubbles appear.

Vinyl is only good if you clear coat over it if not they look like crap in a couple years.

If you are talking about side stripes, mine are 20+ year old vinyl and have held up perfectly. If you are talking about hood stripes, get them painted, the compound curves are not good for vinyl. The best example I can give is the 70 BOSS 302, with elaborate painted hood stripes, connecting to vinyl side stripes.
