I rebuilt my first 289 at 30 and used a book that these guys sugested instead of giving u advice on what to do i will tell u what not to do...... lol

1. dont take all the bolts off and put in one place label them and keep them seperated from one another.

2. dont have other engine parts laying around as you take apart the 289...i had 302 parts alying around and got the water pulleys mixed up cost 3 days off work trying to figure out y my belts would not go on right

3. once u start the project stick with it i took the engine apart and tried to rebuild it 6 months later was really lost but the book got me in line

4. I put the Passenger side head gasket on backwards on a 350 chevy engine they go on the same way both sides but a 289 they dont..... that mistake was caused by thinking i knew what i was doing and just did not read the book

5. TAKE YOUR time and enjoy what you are doing ask questions even though they seem dumn cause at one point we all were there
