Intake/Carb swapped -----WOW!!!
What a difference! Last night after work we finally got around to making the swap.
We decided on a Weiand 8124 intake, and rebuilt an Edelbrock 600cfm we bought off ebay. It was originally a 1405 that we re-jetted to a 1406 set up. The work went smoothly, only a couple of minor setbacks and one race to the parts store before they closed.
It made a much bigger difference than I had anticipated.
Don't you just love those 1:00am first test runs! I'm sure the neighbors complaints will be rolling in first thing this morning.
I may post a pic today if we get around to it.

did the same thing just a bit ago. that weiand 8124 is the action + right? i went with the holley street avenger tho. never did get to do test runs early. just got tired and went to bed lol. i got to re-jet mine still. +2 on the primaries and -2 on the seconds. luckly holley supplied performance springs so the 2nd's open quicker. How much are those jet sets?
Yes the 1406 comes with the electric choke, and the 1405 doesn't. The other difference is that the 1405 is "calibrated" for performance, and the 1406 for fuel economy. The 1405 we found already had the electric choke added.
Performance calibrated has larger (.100 dia) dia primary jets with smaller (.070) metering rods leaving .030" for fuel to pass. The economy model has .098 jets with .075 rods leaving .023 for fuel to pass. Other than that, I'm not aware of any more differences. They sell dozens of diferent jets and rods to set it up however you want. We bought a few extra jets and rods to swap in and out for fun. The slick thing is that you can swap w/out pulling the carb off the car.
5pnt0- Sounds like a cool sherrif.
We've noticed one problem. When we cut the engine off we get a fuel drip off the bottom of the carb near the choke, where the shaft for the primaries comes out of the housing. Not sure whether it is a shaft seal, or maybe running down the housing from the fuel inlet up top, or maybe something else. I didn't have the flat washer to seal the fuel inlet, so we used an o-ring.
Anybody know what it would take to reseal that shaft if that turns out to be the problem?
Sorry no pics yet. My son spent the day driving it. I think he is trying to paint our street black, two stripes at a time.

my brother was so anxious to test drive the 1970 dart swinger we have after we installed a reverse manual 727 behind the fresh 440 that we started it up after we finished around 8 pm. took us 5 min. to get out on the road (let it warm up). turns out, my neighbor called the cops and now they were sent out to look for us. we have fenderwell headers and didn't get a chance to put the 3.5" sidpipes back on, so it was verrrrryyy loud. screamed with power. anyway we pull up to an intersection down the street and see a cop go by, stop, turn around and put his lights on. we were scared so we flew like a bat outa hell and raced home. cop was nowhere in sight. had enough time to pull it in the garage and cover it up, shut the lights and go inside. well, the cop came to our house and knocked on the door to let us know about the complaint, then proceeded to complement the hell out of the car and how quick it was. we showed him the car and got to talking about it. he couldn't believe what a bitch the lady was because it was only 8 at night and she had been complaining for days about the car, even at 1 in the afternoon!!!! she came out once one day to tell me to shut my car off. i told her i'll do what i want with my car and proceed to do a burnout, stopping traffic on either side of my house. lol the cops ignored her after a few complaints because they were ridiculous. "quiet hours" start around 11 here.
