What is this intake called? Is it just a really overstated shaker system or what?

Looks to me like a aftermarket intake with 4bbl carb that had butterfly hat on it.

Like so - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Alumi...%3A1|72%3A1171

Wow. Cool '69 coupe. Custom chrome on the grill and rocker panels, too. Nice detail.

Could be Debbie's next incarnation when I rebuild the motor and paint.

its called a top heavy suspension nightmare from hell....the cold laws of cause and effect at hard at work here like staring down the barrel of a 45, a slug trembling in its dark nest, ready to blow your head off.

As for the intake it looks like a blower scoop thats been attached much indeed like a shaker...not sure if it does any good

It's made by Mr. Gasket. They call it a blower scoop. It can be used with a single or dual quad and they made it to even open the flaps when the pedal is pushed.

There was a guy running around town a few years ago with a yellow el camino that looked like a little hot rod. One day I saw the hood open at the auto parts store and all it was was this thing. It was still a cool car. I always thought this deal was kinda neat. I bet it does some good since it gets cool outside air, but esp on 69-70 a shaker hood would be what I would do.

Is that car a gasser wanna be? Why is there so much room under the front fenders?

It is called an Enderle or Hilborne style scoop after the old fuel injection set up. It is actually a fairly restrictive air cleaner, but here you go:

I wouldn't have thought it to be that restrictive. How so?

I'm not putting one on my car, but just find this interesting.
