Made a "back seat driver" speaker box
*Added pics * I got into the trunk a couple of weekends ago and cut some particle board to fit behind the rear seat and installed a 10" sub and my kenwood 4 channel amp for some tunes.. I picked up some caepet at wal mar and caepeted the board to make it look nice.. then i cut another piece of boaed to fit over the gas tank and i have laid some carpet over that. i just need to fit and trim the carpet now to make it nice...
only problem was that the sub i used came out of a crappy radio shack truck box"thump" brand. and it didnt hold up to the 40 or 50 watts rms that my amp was giving it.. so it blew the voice coil.. so yesterday i replaced it with the second "thump" sub and will probably blow that one up too.. =m going to the swap meet this afternoon and will look for something a little better..
im at mc'd's with the kids now but will post pics when i get home.

Sorry about the huge pics..
and like I said, I still need to trim the carpet to fit the trunk correctly and add some velcro or something to make it stick. I dont want to glue it in though.

What you have set up is called "free air". Back in the day there were speaker designed for this. A sealed speaker box traps the air and it makes it "spring" back. With out the back pressure a speaker can over exert and litterally tear itself up.

"Free-air subwoofers
A free-air system consists of woofers mounted to a board attached to the rear deck or placed in the trunk against the rear seat. The trunk of the car acts as an enclosure which houses the subwoofer and isolates sound from the back of the speaker, solving the sound cancellation problem of subs without an enclosure.
Free-air systems save space and have flat frequency response. The woofer must be specifically designed for free-air use. The lack of a box makes them more convenient to install, but their power handling levels are usually much lower than their boxed counterparts."

I knew it wouldnt last.. The speaker didnt sound good even in the sealed Q logic box I have..
I might build a box for one of the rear pockets in the fender well like 4 reboy did and then just use the board as a amp rack between the seat and the trunk. Not sure yet though.

It is just a panel.. Just like the ones you see in some of the parts magazines. I just looked up a couple of free air subs.. One is a Kicker comp for about $60 and I might just try it out.. It does sound pretty good even with the crappy sub right now along with the Kenwood 6x9's in the package tray. I still dont have front speakers though, Im waiting for some kick pannels with the holes and component speakers. Plus my head unit is not exactly something to be desired. Its crap.
Thanks for the compliment

Looks great.
You really need a sub designed for free air... But not only that make sure you have at least 2-3 inches in front of the sub as well.
Image dynamics Q is great free air.
Cut the rated power in half and put a high pass x-over at 20 hz...

They were crap subs anyhow so I guess now you have an excuse to get a decent one...
