Default Flowmaster questions

Hey guys, newbie here!

I am rebuilding my '67 with dual exhaust and was wondering what type of Flowmaster to run, the regular 40 series or the delta 40?

What is everyone running and what can I expect to pay?

I hear the regular 40 is really loud inside!!

The original 40s are louder than the delta 40, there are also super 40 and super 44. I would go with the original 40. In order from loudest to most quiet is probably original 40, super 44, super 40, then delta flow 40. The delta flow 40 comes in 2 inch, and the rest are 2.25 inches and bigger. If you are just having your old mufflers cut off and new ones welded in it's probably $100-$150 labor. I would expect to pay $90 each for just the mufflers. So $300 total. Flowmaster is a good choice if you like it LOUD!

I have Flowmaster 40s on my 66 fastback with a Ford Boss 347 crate engine and it is too loud for my tastes. At some point I will have to change them out.

How does one get the throaty raspy sound that the cobras have? Is there a way you can get a specific sound?

Mark,

I have the flowmaster 40s as well. with 2.25" pipe all through. It is loud alright, but only when flooring. blatty at stages, no base but VERY aggressive. I like that.
If I ever had to change I'll probably go for something that has a bit of a deeper rumble like the magnaflows or so.

Same here. I dont know if I like my 2.5 inch 40's or not.. They are too loud for me, but I like the attention they get. If only it were quieter in the car.

I like the Flowmaster 40's, it really drowns out the sound of my wife out on the road

The pitch of the tone is not only affected by the muffler, but the diameter of pipe. I have a 3" dual exhaust from the collectors back with Flowmaster 40s. It is a deep sound, but is also very loud. The smaller diameter pipe raises the pitch, so the raspy sound is probably created by having small pipe.
