Can use a 95T5 in a 85
Right, I guess that's what I was saying too. It will still mount perfectly fine but it will move the shifter back about an inch. I don't know if that will cause an issue in a fox but I know in a 65-68 it requires you to cut the shifter hole a little back. But in the 71-73 it fits perfectly, did a 95 5.0/T5 conversion in a 72 and it came up perfect.
In the end probably because the trans will be overall longer but that is always hit and miss. When doing a t5 conversion to a classic there is no set trim length because every one ends up different. Still that won't fix the issue of the shifter moving back about an inch, that will be the bellhousing/input shaft issue.
it will work fine. as stated above, you "must" use the 94/95 bellhousing & the pilot bearing must be for a 94/95. if your using long tube headers, you will need to use a fox clutch fork as the 94/95 fork are a little longer. I used a 94 t-5 in my 91 fox following these same rules & it worked perfectly. one of the downsides is the 3.35 1st gear, not sure when they changed from 2.95 but the 3.35 1st combined with the 3.55 rearend =hitting the revlimiter @ 25mph in 1st w/255/40/17's on the rear. just a thought to consider.
