Default Trans swap

I have a 65 fastback with a 289. The folks I bought the car from had swapped out the original 4 speed top loader to a 2 speed powerglide.

Anyhow, I really want to get the car back to a manual trans. Anyone have good advice/ websites on where to find all of the items I would need to swap out to a T-5? Or maybe a T-10 trans?

I know don't know enough about this to even guess what is involved. So if anyone can help with a list of part I will need to make this happen, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,

Look on the moderndriveline.com site. They have a complete kit.
There are other companies with kits too. Kessler comes to mind. It's a fairly
common swap with these cars. I went from auto to manual too on the 71.
That said, you may want to keep it stock and go back to a toploader,
if your fastback came with it. It maybe a rare car, 4-speeds generally are less common,
most were automatics or 3-speed.
Do the codes say it had the hi-po 289 too?

Check out Mustangsteve.com He can give you everything you need. I got my crossmember and cable clutch setup from him. He also sells your pedal assemblies and everything too. I highly recommend the ball bearing kit too.

Yeah both of them are right and i would use a t5 over a t10 since it has a over drive and better built but both have there limits.

Thanks,
A GM Powerglide™ In a Ford? What makes you think it's a 2-speed transmission? Ford never put a 2-speed in the Mustang, so that'd be an interesting conversion.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I was surprised to by the discovery of the trans that is in the car now, but it is the 2 speed powerglide. I'm not sure what all was done to make this conversion, but hope it wasn't anything too radical.

I will check the websites. Thanks again!

Also check Sacremento Mustang, they have a pretty good FAQ and kits depending on which bell you are going with.

Here's a link:

Most old drag racers used powerglides in fords and anything they drag raced. And a powerglide is a 2 speed btw.
