Default 289 Cylinder location

Oh I feel so stupid. I have a timing problem with my HiPo 289. After fixing the electric fuel pump problem, I smacked the distributor and it moved. UGH! I run out get a timing light to get ready to adjust it back - because after running 20 seconds, it starts running like crap then stalls.

I get it running, guarding the throttle to keep it running, I check the timing and it's WAAAYYY off!!! I can't get the mark within 2 inches of the guide.

I'm on the front right cylinder - Number 1, NO?

If you mean front/right as in pass side....yes. That is no.1. They run 1234 on pass side and 5678 on drivers side. Also, make sure there is no vacuum at the advance on the dist. Remove it and plug it.

If it's a real 289HP, it has no vacuum advance. I gotta wonder why the electric fuel pump, they were raced by Shelby American with ordinary mechanical pumps. The right-front plug is #1, nearest the battery.

It's not a stock 289HP. The engine was rebuilt in 94 with the help of Ford Racing. The ignition system is MSD, without vacuum advance. As for the electric fuel pump, my cousin thought it was better than the mechanical pump. I must now live with his decision (for now anyway).
