Cowl is finally off

Thumbs up Cowl is finally off

After 2 1/2 years I finally got the cowl off. Didn't really like what I saw after it came off, more rust and things to fix. I guess I better learn how to weld.

Shudder! I remember well what that looks like. It wasn't as big a task as I had prepped myself for. Lot of work and time but not really that hard. +1 to the welding

That thing is hideous! You have a lot of work ahead of you, but it is a labor of love. Good luck.

its not that bad.... a little bondo, seam sealer and duct tape and itll be good as new...

hows the firewall and i already know the floors are shot.

Ahh but the floors and frame have been fixed already. Fire wall needs a little work but isn't that bad. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

WOW! Good luck. I give you props, I don't think I have the motivation to take on something like that. If I didn't get to drive mine in between taking it apart and fixing something, I'm not sure I would come back to it.

How long do those special bits last to drill out the cowl? Did you go through many bits?

I used keysco tools spot weld cutting bits on my trunk (ALC77778). I was amazed at how well they cut. I picked up the blair (BLR11094) cutters this week end to try on the quarter panel. The problem with the keysco is distinguishing between the two sheets of metal, cutting the top but not the bottom. They're so sharp it's very easy to go too deep, resulting in extra work to fill the hole or crater for the new panel. So far I've done at least 100 spot welds and they're still sharp.
