Cool Old Shade Tree Mechanic Compression Test

An old shade tree mechanic told me an easy way to get an idea of whether or not you have good compression is if it takes you one or two hands on the fan blades to turn your engine over. One hand = compression probably bad/low, two hands = compression probably OK/good. What do you think? Is this somewhat accurate or not even remotely accurate?

If it's not in gear and you can turn the engine over by the fan blade, you'd probably have pretty much 0 compression on all cylinders.

Sounds very scientific. How hard it is to turn an engine over is going to depend on a ton of things like dynamic compression, valve event timing, etc. I think I will stick to my compression meter and leak down tester.

super idea other than the fact I dont think ever in the history of the world has a fan belt had enough static holding force to rotate a v8 over from a dead stop without slipping.

I don't even think that test is physically possible. If some how it is I think all it proves is your fan belt is way too tight.

That seems logical. I had my doubts anyway. Nice weapon!
