Headlights cut in and out
I was driving home yesterday in the dark and my headlights (low or high) would completely cut out then back in, out and in, there was no sweet spot to fix it. I think what was happening is the wiring is getting too hot and its cutting out. I tried reading through some old posts and someone suggested the voltage regulator. Would that cause the headlights to cut in and out? We played with the wiring at the dash switch but there was no sweet spot to make it stay on.
At this point I am thinking voltage regulator and relay mod. Does anyone have a link to a whole new headlight wiring harness? plug and play.
thanks.

If you want a whole new headlamp feed, then you can check out this link and choose your year:

If you want a relay harness which attaches the lights directly to the battery and simply uses the existing wire to "switch" the lights on via a relay, then you may want to try here for the best price--although this harness is available on the above link as well.

If the wiring is original, then you could replace the headlamp feed and do without the relay harness to see how it works for you. If you're running halogens, then you may want to replace the OEM wiring AND do the relay as well.
If your existing wiring is in good condition, then you might be able to just get the relay harness and be done with it.

check the bright switch on the floor before you just go throwing parts at it.
I had intermittent headlight failure just as described, sometimes pushing the light switch in and back out would turn them back on. Replaced all kinds of switches, wires, bulbs, ended up being the high beam switch on the flo0r.
the switch was going bad and the conenctions werent tight, new switch and never had headlight problems since!

yeah they dont flicker too much from current draw but the wiring at the dash is HOT and there is no sweet spot to fix it. Ordered the switch today, going to get the wiring for the relay mod this week.
Thanks again guys!
oh and pass1over sorry i missed your post earlier, the high beams cut out the same as the low beams, thanks.

The relay mod is great, I made my own whole new wiring harness for my 69 with two relays and it came out great, HUGE difference. I'm thinking about doing a write up here since 69 is the only year of the four headlights, it took a lot of research and finding for me to get the right information to do it.
I agree that you could have a bad headlight switch or bad wiring.
If your running halogen bulbs you will get better results with a relay setup.
The factory switch and wiring isn't really designed to tun halogen bulbs. I know people that have a new switch and all new wiring that still have the headlights cut out especially on high beam with halogen bulbs.
I have a relay setup with Sylvania Xtravisions 6024XV bulbs. They are higher wattage (about the same as moder halogen capsule bulbs) than the regular 6024 bubls. The light output is great. You can get these bulbs at Wally World for 12 bucks. They are in a purple package.
You can do this.

Or you can get the relay harness that I got.
