Default Engine Question

What do you do when you turn the ignition and the engine and rev it up some, but after you let go off the accelerator back to an idle it dies? We just replaced the coil, points, and distributor cap. thxs

When cold or warm? Does it have a choke?

You pull the air cleaner off and look at the carb. Make sure the choke plate is closing. If not, then it is running to lean to idle. (it's the plate on top, in the front)

Until it warms up, a carburetated engine is not going to run well. That is the point of a choke. It helps richen the air fuel mixture to help the engine run while cold. The choke system should also have a high idle setting to help raise the rpm up some during this time. An automatic choke uses a heat coil to open the choke on a time delay. It sounds like your choke is either not working right or is not adjusted correctly.

Does is run ok once it is warm?

Here is some more info!

2.3L, 4 cyl, OMC Cobra engine.
The engine was running normal at 30 mph and just started to lose power and died out.
We were getting plenty of gas and it just wouldn’t start. Turns over great, just won’t start.

Last weekend, I installed new points, condenser, rotor and coil, set dwell, had spark and even with starter fluid, could not get it to start. I was unable to replace the Distributor cap, couldn’t find one.

Items still to do:
Check Timing
Change plugs

Well, that's a whole different game. Now you're saying that it don't start, but it has spark....and fuel? Careful with the starter fluid.
