Default Typical modded 289 HP outputs

What do most 289 with the typical mods make?

Such as a fresh stock 289 motor with

1. Headers
2. Exhaust
3. 4 Barrel Holley 650
4. Edelbrock Airgap RPM manifold
5. MSD ignition

like 250-290 crank HP?

That's close. You can get significantly more with a cam and head upgrade.

A stock engine with all that would be lucky to get 250 at the crank.

i'm thinking along the luck 250 as well. at flywheel a stock 289 makes honest 180HP. they were 220max 4barrell without any powerrobbers like alternators, fans etc. wouldn't be surprised if they tested them without a waterpump installed either. anyway no accessories. i'd say with what I have i'm at just over 300HP crank, 270wheels

like 200-210 and with the airgap and stock cam and heads low end will suffer slightly, you need a cam in that baby to make the other parts come alive.

The iron heads can be retained, but the exhaust ports must be smoothed out and enlarged. Headers, Tri-Ys, or even 289HP manifolds are important, the standard manifolds are pretty restrictive. An Edelbrock carb will give you greater reliability, with less maintenance. The MSD will give you the least amount of return for your money. Bag that and get a Pertronix module, and have a professional set the advance curves of your distributor.

World does have a 460 stroker based off the 351w.
