Default Passenger Vs. Driver

Should the passenger side of the car have more space between the engine and the tower than the driver side?? There is noticeable space difference in the two. If this is not normal how would I fix this?? Or how can I adjust it so that there is equal spacing??

I cant say that this is normal, it would not be normal in a 66, but other than a defective engine mount it would be a difficult thing to explain.

I say check the motor mounts, for a bent frame rail, bent shock tower, SEVERE rust, etc. and if this all looks ok and everything fits, ignore it....

I can say for sure that the engine is shifted slightly to the right on some cars, but I never thought that this is the case with any Mustang. This is mostly done on small sports cars, they say to make up for the drivers weight in order to balance the car, but I am sure spacial restrictions come into play as well.

Edit - For earlier Mustangs, Ron Morris adjustable engine mounts would allow an engine to be shifted a little bit from side to side, but I don't know if they are available for your model.

It should be pretty much equal. I would check out what the previous posted replied, but you can also look into getting adjustable motor mounts. I have been think of getting them as well.

Alright thanks. JMD everything fits but I have a feeling if I wanted to get new headers they would not fit. I am using the original cast iron ones.

How difficult is it to replace the shock tower?? Would I need to weld anything? Looks like the driver's side one is weird. Or maybe the guy before me put on the new radiator support wrong? It was replaced, could that cause a misalignment?

I have wanted adjustable mounts for awhile but I can not afford them right now. Having my engine sit higher would make it look bigger I think lol.

I have those RMP adjustable mounts on mine. I would recommend them to anyone that is considering them. They work great.

tx you would really recommend them? They are worth that much money and are that much better than stock mounts that are like $18 a piece? If you guys really think so I will save up and hopefully get a set in a month or 2 lol.

Pics would be great so that we could actually see what it looks like and what is going on.

I have the RMP adjustables as well, and they are a good investment. They're cut from a waterjet out of heavy gauge steel and allow for a good range of adjustability, which I've used in mine. And they're practically indestructible as engine mounts go.

I think he might want to actually figure out what is wrong with the car before throwing money at it and putting adjustable motor mounts on. With everything stated so far I would say that a trip to a good frame shop is in order.

Yes, I would definitely recommend them. As 67mustang302 said, they are heavy duty mounts. The bushing is polyurethane also.

Mine worked great for my T5 conversion and helped my headers fit nicely.

It is hard to say why the motor does not sit centered. It could be that a frame rail is bent or a shock tower is sagging in more than the other. I would put an one peice export brace and monte carlo bar on it. You might find that putting a monte carlo bar on it will push the shock tower back into position, if that is actually the problem.
