Water Temp Sender
Where can I get the correct sender for a 68 coupe with a 289?
All the local stores sell me what they say is the right one but none of them work. This car has the 6 volt regulated gauges and I need one with between 10 ohms hot and 70 OHMS cold.
I have 5.5 volts right at the connector plug.
Everything locally is between 150 and 240 ohms and does not work

I got a sending unit for my 65 from CJ and it works correctly with my factory gauges with the instrument cluster voltage regulator that is 5-6 volts. It even fits my Edelbrock intake.
When you say its not working, do you mean it doesn't work at all or the gauge reads high?
Your problem may the the ICVR. I went through a few new ones from different places and none of them worked right on my car. My original one still works. We ended up making our own electronic one. I think NPD and Paddock sell electronic ones.

You know, you would think that such a simple part would be easy to find. I still have yet to find a retailer/manufacturer sell me the right one, even though they always say its "the right one". I have settled on one that gives me a higher reading than it should, but technically it does work so bleh.....
The repair parts available might fit, and even look right, but it's a real crap shoot whether they give the right reading. I just ran-in a new built 390GT, and although the intake at the sender was a perfect 195°-200°, the gauge was 3/4 of the way to "hot".
All of the current fuel senders are crap. Glazier Nolan is working on getting a proper sender made.
Use the link I posted above, they should be able to recalibrate one to perfection.

All the new temp sensors are crap. I have yet to find one that read accurately. I finally was able to locate a NOS Autolite one, and solved my problems.

When I said it is not working what I mean is that I have 5.5 volts at the sender plug connector and if I ground the wire the gauge goes to full hot, so I know the gauge is working and the wire is ok, the senders I find all have too much resitance.
I think Monday I will try the ford dealer again, I tried them for the instrument voltage regulator and was told that has not been available for the last ten years
